Provincial and Legal Differences Answers

Q:  Is QuickStart an option for us if we are provincially-regulated and not located in Ontario, Alberta or BC?  QuickStart seems to only accommodate Ontario, Alberta or BC employers.

A:  At ConnectsUs, we are always working on new products. Until a product becomes available for your province, here's what you should know:

There are only about 25 topics in QuickStart that are province-specific - and most of them provide the same policy content, but the references to additional resources and legislated websites are different. This means that you could purchase QuickStart and you may have to customize the content of approximately 5 topics to ensure they follow Employment Standards and other regulatory bodies such as Human Rights and Workers' Compensation minimum requirements for your province. The rest of the topics apply to any employer in Canada.  Legally-sensitive documents are easily identified throughout the template.

Q:  Is QuickStart software?

A: No, it’s not software, we’re better! With QuickStart, you don’t have to install or learn a new application.  The pre-written topics are delivered in an easily editable MS Word® template so all you have to do is edit the content within the document.

Q:  Do you have industry-specific products?


A: Unfortunately, we do not have industry specific products at this time, even though we are always working on new products. QuickStart was created to include what employees need to know in most organizations - regardless of industry. The industry and company-specific information should be added to QuickStart as part of the customization process.

For example, if you are a manufacturing employer, QuickStart includes general safety topics. But procedures about specific chemicals used in your plant or machinery safety information will have to be added.

Q:  I am looking for a simple solution.  Do I have to be an MS Office® “wiz” to work with QuickStart?

A:
  Anyone can use QuickStart, regardless of its current level of existing company guidelines.   You don’t have to be a technical wiz to customize and launch QuickStart.  Customers who customize the QuickStart Employee Manual Template will find the process easier if they have some of the Microsoft® Word skills listed below:
 

  • Cut, paste and format text
  • Basic understanding of tables.
  • Use and modify existing formatting styles and create new styles
  • Insert, move or remove graphic images
  • Use tracking to track edits and accept or reject changes
  • Edit and format header and footer text
  • Set or change margins
  • Generate a table of contents.

Even if you are not familiar with the above functions in Word®, the QuickStart User guide was created to help with customizing the template and includes screen shots of how to use the template. 

You will be amazed at what simple things you can do in Word™ that will accelerate the customization process by using functions that change your document in one key stroke!

Q: I have a rather small/large number of employees working for my company.  Is QuickStart the right solution for me?

A:
Every well-run organization needs - at a minimum - an employee manual to communicate the fundamentals to their people. QuickStart is scalable and flexible and can be used by any organization with a need to communicate all the information employees and managers need to do their jobs well - regardless of size. The final employee manual can simply include a smaller number of topics for smaller organizations, and a larger number of topics for larger organization.

Q: I have a MAC.  Are your products Compatible with a MAC?

A:
About 10% of our customers are using our products on a MAC without any challenges.  However, QuickStart was created for a PC.  While the vast majority of the functionality of Word® and Excel® are compatible on MAC, there are some instructions included in our documentation that may be different when using a MAC.  If you are very familiar with a MAC and the features and functionality differences between MAC and PC we do recommend purchasing our products.  Unfortunately, we cannot provide customization support for MAC customers at this time.

This service ensures our customers are provided with support when working with ClearSite and can feel safe knowing that all templates are kept up-to-date. Downloading Challenges Answers

Q:  I just purchased a product and the file that I downloaded will not open (or cannot be read)?

A:
Sometimes when downloading the file from our site to your computer, the file extension gets lost and the file will not open properly. You have to make sure that when you are saving the file to your computer, that the extension of the file name is “.zip”. In other words, the file name needs to end with “.zip”. Once you have included ".zip" to the end of the file name, it will then know what application to open and you will be able to save and access the file folder.

Q:  I don’t trust on line credit card purchases. How can I be sure that my information is protected?

A:
Good question. But feel safe knowing that we have taken all the precautions to make sure that your sensitive information is protected. When purchasing our products online, you'll know that the credit card transaction is secure when you see a full yellow key in a blue box in the lower left-hand corner of your Netscape browser. If you use Explorer, you'll see a full "lock" in the status bar. Learn more…

Q:  What can I expect during the Order Process if I purchase on line?  How does it work?

A:
  Here is what happens when you process an order online:
 

  • You may place your order anytime – 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
  • Your order is immediately processed when your credit card has been authorized for payment (usually happens within seconds)
  • You will receive an email very shortly after your purchase confirming your order and providing you with a receipt and other important information
  • You will have the ability to download your product in 2 ways:
    • Using a screen at the end of the purchasing process that directs you to download your product(s); and/or
    • Downloading instructions are provided in your email receipt

Note:  You will have 10 calendar days to download your product, at which time your download will become inactive unless you have purchased a Support and Updates Subscription, in which case you can re-download the newest version of your purchased product at any time..

Consultants and Partner Programs

Q:  I am a consultant and I want to purchase your products for one of my clients.  How do I do this?

A:
  Simple. When purchasing the product in our shopping cart, you will be asked if you are an end user or a third party consultant.  The shopping cart form will ask for information about your client so that we can keep both you and your client up to date with product changes - particularly if you purchase an annual support and maintenance subscription.  We can’t assume that you will be associated with your client forever, and the end user (your client) should have access to updates to keep their product current.

Remember, the product license belongs to your client, and you as a consultant, may not re-use any portion of the products unless you purchase another license for your use, or for another client’s use.  See Third Party Terms of Use.
